Fact File
The best thing about my job:
The best thing about my job is the flexibility. I can work at home with my dog at my side instead of travelling to an office. Sometimes I work on the weekend and have a week day off instead. On school holidays I can take my laptop with me and work at the beach or in the Flinders Ranges.
My favourite food:
I love mangoes for breakfast in the summer. It’s like eating sunshine in a bowl!
My dream car:
My dream car is one that comes with a chauffeur. Imagine being driven to town and being dropped off right in front of the shop without having to find a park, or being able to fall asleep in the back seat when you are being driven home late at night.
My worst injury:
When I was four I split my head open. I was so excited that my schoolfriend had arrived that I ran down the passageway and straight into the steel doorframe. Eight stitched later and I still have the scar in the middle of my forehead.
My favourite colours:
Orange – it’s such a happy colour!
My favourite movie:
I love watching Love Actually at Christmas. I often think of the opening scene when I see people greeting each other at airports. I like to guess what is their relationship to one another.
My hero and why:
My dad is the most kind and generous person I know. I wish I was more like him and could be more generous with my time and more patient with people.
My favourite possessions:
I have a wonderful collection of Christmas decorations that I love. I buy Christmas decorations as souvenirs when I travel, and when I put them on the tree I can remember the times and places I visited in the past.
If I wasn’t doing my current job, I would like to be:
…working in a bookshop! I love seeing all the new books that are coming out daily. I enjoy the illustrations, the smell of the pages, the feel of the paper, and the style and design of the cover. I even enjoy reading the stories!
The most important things in life:
The most important things in life are the good people around you – friends and family and the kindness of strangers.
My Ambassador Reading Tip:
Find the books that are right for you – graphic novels, information encyclopaedias, short story collections, non-fiction essays, memoirs or novels – there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ book. Find a book that resonates with you and you’ll have a friend for life.
