This is the story of Joseph Merrick born in 1862. Joseph looked like any other baby when he was born, but began to change when he was a few years old. By the time his mother died when he was 11 years old, he had become quite disfigured and life had become very difficult for him. He became know as Elephant Man and for many years travelled in a freak show being taken advantage of by unscrupulous people. This retelling of his sad story as a Picture book gives an insight into how we need to have empathy for those who appear different.
