Published: 2018 by Walker Books
Level: Primary Years (3-5)
The Happiness Box was written and illustrated by two inmates of Changi Prison where Australia’s forces were sent when Singapore surrendered to the Japanese in 1942.They wrote the book for the children incarcerated in the prison, but the man in charge wanted it destroyed. Instead it was buried and at the end of the war it was dug up and remains an important piece of Australia's involvement in war.
