Listmaker
Keeping up to date with the books on the PRC booklist and the books in school libraries can be a challenge. The PRC Listmaker program is intended to make that process easier for school libraries. Once downloaded and installed, Listmaker will do the following:
- Compare the contents of your library system’s database against the items contained in the Premier’s Reading Challenge booklists.
- Display all items matched. The list can then be printed or exported. Exported lists can be transferred into Word, Excel or another program. Various options are included to change the sort order, level and categories viewed.
Working with Listmaker
PRC Listmaker program is designed for use with the any library system that can export catalogue records in MARC format. One of the special features of PRC Listmaker is its ability to ‘tag’ items in your library’s system database by using an asterisk in the record and PRC and the level (R-2, 3-5, 6-9, Mature) added to the Series of each item. The handbook and installation guide detail the process for Bookmark and Amlib.
PRC Listmaker is fully integrated into the Bookmark library system. There is no need to download the stand-alone version, only to activate the Premier’s Reading Challenge facility in Bookmark itself. Instructions and information can be found in the Cataloguing guide and Fact Sheet. Note: this is only available for Bookmark version 10.
Listmaker may not match every book title as occasionally there are minor differences in cataloguing between your catalogue and the records in the PRC Booklist. If you suspect a book is included in the PRC booklist and hasn’t been listed using PRC Listmaker you can check by doing a booklist search on the website. Please note, books are rarely removed from the booklist.
If you are having issues using PRC Listmaker, it may be because you do not have full permission rights on your school network. Please contact your school’s IT Network Manager who will have full control user access and request that she/he installs the program.
Matching and tagging by series
PRC Listmaker automatically tags items in your library catalogue that are not found in the PRC Booklists but which have the same series as titles that are on the booklists.
Every time the Premier’s Reading Challenge booklist is updated, a new version of the PRC Booklist will be made available on the website. PRC Listmaker may automatically update the booklist. Alternately, the booklist can be updated from the above link.

You may need to update your version of Internet Explorer which needs to be 5.5 or later. This is done as part of updating the version of Windows – click Start then Windows. Update initiates this process. It can take some time as quite a bit of software is downloaded.
