McAuley Community School welcomes Mem Fox
10 June 2025
McAuley Community School Reception-Year 3 students, as well as invited Alive Catholic Early Learning Centre children, were excited to welcome award-winning author, and Premier’s Reading Challenge Ambassador, Mem Fox. Principal Sean Hill was also thrilled to catch up with Mem again after being one of her Flinders Uni students many years ago.
Mem delighted everyone with her reading of Possum Magic. After reminding students of why she supports the PRC, Mem explained that not every book is for everyone. One must keep reading to find the ones you like the most, the ones that remind you why reading is so fabulous.
Mem read two more of her books; Ducks Away and Good Night, Sleep Tight when the children displayed their counting back skills and knowledge of traditional nursery rhymes. To finish off the session, students asked questions, a few had their much-loved Mem Fox books signed, and then the school fun continued with a Possum Magic inspired morning tea picnic.
