Renmark North Primary School entertained – Mem Fox

Renowned author and Premier’s Reading Challenge Ambassador, Mem Fox, visited Renmark North School on 7 May. Starting with a reading of Where is the Green Sheep?, Mem shared her love of reading, and students were spellbound by her storytelling and passion for books. Mem gave a small insight into her childhood and the inspiration behind Koala Lou, another book that, when read, captivated both students and staff.

Also passionate about the Premier’s Reading Challenge, Mem reminded students about the importance of reading and why completing the PRC is rewarding—because ‘you get to read for fun.’

Thank you to all staff and students for the warm welcome extended. A special thank you to librarian Dayna for her wonderful creative displays, and to the kind and creative parent who made an incredible Possum Magic-inspired cake and biscuits.

Students offered feedback about Mem’s visit:

Mem Fox is funny and her humour was great; she made a lot of people laugh and made funny character voices. — Claire
I liked how she read and I could hear her read with her voice. She made her voice lower down and higher up for the story to have more details. — Mackinley F

And from staff:

It was a true privilege to welcome Mem Fox to our school last week. Her visit was a wonderful experience for both students and staff. Her humour and passion for storytelling captivated everyone in the room. As an ambassador for the Premier’s Reading Challenge, she shared a strong message about the importance of reading and nurturing a lifelong love of books. Having such a respected and beloved Australian author visit our school was both inspiring and memorable, and we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to host her. — Dayna, Librarian
