Ambassador Visit to Berri Primary School – Mem Fox
8 May 2026
The second day of Mem Fox’s Premier’s Reading Challenge Riverland tour began at Berri Primary School. Welcomed by enthusiastic staff and students, including ‘magic hat’-wearing Reception children, Mem inspired students to discover the joy of reading and the power of imagination.
Reading some of her books—including Possum Magic, Where is the Green Sheep?, and Koala Lou—Mem entertained students and staff with her energy and enthusiasm. She explained why she believes the Premier’s Reading Challenge is valuable and encouraged students to keep trying to find books they enjoy, to complete the Challenge this year.
Students were given the opportunity to ask questions, with some choosing to focus on Mem’s tales of her childhood in Africa. As Mem explained, this was a particularly special time for her, and Africa is a place she truly adored.
After signing books for students, it was time to say goodbye. Thank you to everyone for a wonderful morning and for the opportunity to visit your amazing school and students.
Staff feedback
It was wonderful having you all visit. Mem is such a treasure and having her share stories both personal and written, was incredible. It was indeed a very memorable day for us all. — Maria Rivera, Deputy Principal
